Over extended periods of time in the case of this iMac 6 years those higher temperatures can start to weaken the solder of the components amongst other things.Īpple in their wisdom have chosen fan speeds that strike a balance between noise and cooling, using the default settings the fans are barely audible unless the temperatures for the GPU and CPU reach the 90 degree C mark, and the Hard Drive the 60 degree C mark. In time those temperatures will creep up further especially the Hard Drive.
